Stories by the sea in Whitstable

Established in 2014, WhitLit presents acclaimed writers and emerging voices championing conversation, creativity, and community with events across the year.

An elegant, empty author stage set against a backdrop of large windows revealing Whitstable’s shingle beach and a distant line of fishing boats. At center stage sits a polished oak lectern with a single open book and a slim microphone, both meticulously detailed, next to two deep-blue upholstered chairs flanking a small round table bearing a glass jug of water and stacked programmes. Overhead, warm pendant lights cast a gentle, even glow, mixing with soft, overcast coastal daylight. The atmosphere is professional yet welcoming, poised moments before an event begins. Captured in photographic realism from a slightly elevated angle, with crisp focus on the stage and a subtly blurred audience area in the foreground to suggest scale without any visible people.
